Review of an imaginary concert event

On a beautiful sunny afternoon today, on the towpath of the Naviglio Grande in Milan, perhaps the most beautiful concert of the season was held by the Bli Ble String Quartet from Baltimore (US). They performed Janacek's memorable second quartet ("the highest peak of twentieth-century quartetism", according to Algesio Erbi, cfr. my previous post) and Schumann's first quartet, with a culural journey back in time that highlighted the disconcerting beauty of the adagio of this second work, as enveloped in all the metaphysical, intimist aura of Schumann's poetic world. Speechless, the audience walked away without applauding, in almost religious silence, not to disturb the harmony that had been created at the end of the concert.
